productivity has picked up once again.

after a short hiatus, i have once again delved headlong into the remaining work of the semester. just three more days of classes and the first term of my third year is compete. kind of scary eh?? feels like i was just moving into residence not too long ago..! anyway - we had our depth group sleepover on thursday night. there was an abundance of food, let me tell you! nachos, pizza, pringles, candy, cookies, pie, coke and chips. phew. it was a great time - we played madgab and bible outburst. saturday i went shopping, and it was a successful trip. i got a birthday outfit with the permission of mums and a few other things. it was very nice to get out of the queen's bubble for a day and feel a part of the real world for a change.

has the christmas feeling hit anyone else yet? i seem to have caught it already. no mind that the weather is still in the positive numbers, christmas is upon us. although, (an aside) , this weather has indeed boggled my mind. a result of global warming perhaps? or maybe a trick God is playing on us? :) okay, so maybe not the latter. but it is indeed a little bizarre. i mean, the extended forecast has predicted 9 degrees on my birthday. that has never happened before! 9 degrees! bust out the spring jackets folks, winter's never coming! or isn't it? it definitely is. it's a matter of timing. perhaps winter will dare show it's face in january. until the day, i guess we just wait in anticipation.

oh dear, it's 3:30 and i think my load of laundry is done. i'm off to collect my clean clothes!

eesh

you know your body is sleep deprived when announcements in the library over the speaker, which never startled you before, cause your heart to skip a beat every time.

le paper.

i have just spent an afternoon writing a paper. it was one of those quiet days when you know due dates are imminent so you sit yourslef down in front of the computer and test your discipline - how long can you be focussed on your paper without being distracted? well, i've got 8 out of 12 pages completed so far. i figure, minus two pages - one for the introduction, one for the conclusion - so really, it's only two more pages of arguments. and that's definitely managable. i suppose writing this has really defeated my goal of being focussed. but since i've already written it, might as well post it.

animals.

if there is one thing that is sure to get your heart racing is an animal carcass in the middle of the sidewalk, stumbled upon in the night. limp or stiff, it seems to have a similar effect on the person. let me explain.

scenario one. iris and i were walking to dance on friday night - it was about 8:50pm. class started at 9pm. so we were booting it, walking a fairly quick pace down division st. we cross at divison and brock, chattering away. then we see it. there's something in the middle of the sidewalk. what is it? is it a glove? a plastic bag? as we approach the object we both realize in an instant what it is - a rather large mouse. still in the mousetrap. needless to say, girlie screams ensued as we ran from it - iris ran away (she ran back the way we came), i ran around it.

scenario two. esther, iris and i were at the library (good ol' stauffer). we were working away diligently, then decided to leave at about 10:30ish pm to watch a show on tv and give our minds a break. we exit the building and walk in the direction of clergy. again, we were chatting away, not keenly aware of our surroundings. we were crossing the road and stepping onto the sidewalk, when we saw it. a stiff squirrel carcass on the edge of the sidewalk. it's tail stuck straight up in the air and was frazzled. again, girlie screams ensued - this time however, i was laughing. the shock of almost stepping on it freaked me out, but as soon as i saw it, i knew. luckily for me, earlier in the day a friend of mine who lives on clergy st. had mentioned that there was an electrocuted looking squirrel on the sidewalk. i had meant to tell the others about it, but in my diligence with schoolwork, i failed to do so. needless to say, they found out regardless.

such a girl.

*sigh* i just got back from watching bridget jones 2. such a chick flick, but very much what i needed tonight! and of course, hugh and colin were a treat for the eyes - haha. very fine. the movie was hilarious, shanghe and i were dying with laughter. we've gotta see that one again - even if only on dvd.

the previews offered a few good options for the holidays. the one that we definitely are going to see: 'bride and prejudice'. we got the brown-ness representin! yeeah! it looks sooo good! just gotta wait a couple more months till it gets out - december 22nd i think. really, i'm quite excited about it. it is directed by the same person who did 'bend it blike beckham' and i defintely loved that movie.

well i'm gonna jet...thoughts of bridget and mr. darcy giving me warm fuzzies...*sigh*

november 04. what a month.

you know it's that time of the school year when you lie down on your bed in the middle of the afternoon, only to wake up two hours later shocked to realize that you fell asleep in the first place and your initial thought after you look at the clock is: "eesh! i just wasted precious time! must! get! out! of! bed!" as you unwillingly tear yourself from the comfort and security of your duvet.

that was my story today. except i woke up and it was dark - when i went to my bed, the sun was still up - i was a little panicked, hoping that when i was coherent enough to read the clock, it did not say 9pm. luckily for me it was actually only 5:30pm. gotta love that daylight savings. throws me off every time.

i think this may be the toughest month of my life yet - academically that is. third year really offers the best and worst of life's situations. i hear it gets easier in fourth year. somehow, i believe it. i'll let you know what it's like when i get there.

it's weeks like these that really make me appreciate hiphop on friday nights. definitely a good way to relieve the built up stress over the week. i'll be "brooklyn rock"-ing my little feet off. until then, i work toward defeating the mountain of papers that are in my way.

snow! snow! snow!

the first snow of the season is upon us folks. we all know that it's gonna come at some point, but that day when the white flakes actually fall from the sky - it's still a shocker. i guess it's good that we got the first snow out of the way though..now we can get on with winter - bring it on i say. although i probably shouldn't challenge winter - next thing i know we'll be hit with the coldest most frigid season yet! and we all know we don't want that. not in this town where the sidewalks remain forever unshovelled :)

first time

i just saw the northern lights for the first time. it is beautiful! wow...i am amazed at the beauty of creation...!!

worthy

it is such a beautiful day. the sun is shining, blue skies above, birds singing - so amazing. as a sit here, the song 'unashamed love' is playing, "you are worth of a holy life, sacrifice, unashamed love.." and i can't help but think about how blessed we are that God loves us, and we are free to live in relationship with Him. how great is that? i kow that i have the desire to live for Him..."come like a rushing wind, clothe us with power from on High, now set the captives free, leave us abandoned to Your praise. Lord let your glory fall...consuming fire, fan into flame. a passion for Your name, spirit of God, fall in this place, Lord have Your way in me..." i can do nothing but stand in awe of this God i am privileged to know...He is so deserving of our worship in everything we do - talking, studying, working... because of Him, we have life. and that in itself is awesome.

poor kid.

what were these people thinking when they named their kids?? here are some examples of names of actual children out in the world - these are children of stars, who apparently have a distorted sense of what creativity is when it comes to naming kids.

Rob Morrow named his daughter Tu. Her full name is Tu Morrow.
Jermaine Jackson named his son Jermajesty.
Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. (that's right, inspector with a K)
Rachel Griffiths named her son Banjo.
The girl from A Knights Tale named her son Audio Science.
John Mellencamp's son is Speck Wildhorse.

These next ones are just brutal. Imagine, some kid out there is named:
- Fifi Trixibelle
- Peaches Honeyblossom
- Pixie
- Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily

Frank Zappa named his kids: Diva, Dweezil, and (the name I think wins for complete randomness, absurdity, oddness etc) - Moon Unit.
